How to Feel Comfortable in Front of the Camera
Let’s face it: having a camera pointed at you can feel awkward, especially when you’re supposed to act natural with your partner. But I promise, it doesn’t have to be weird! Here are my top tips to help you feel relaxed and enjoy every moment of your couples’ session.
5 Ways to Get Comfortable During Your Couples’ Shoot:
- Wear What Makes You Feel Confident
- Keep Moving
- Interact with Each Other, Not the Camera
- Trust the Process
- Embrace the Awkwardness and Have Fun
1. Wear What Makes You Feel Confident
Comfortable clothes that reflect your personality are key. If you feel good, you’ll look good! Avoid matching too much, but coordinate your outfits so they complement each other. Neutral tones and soft colors often work well for couples, but wear whatever makes you feel good! Do not go buy an outfit that is outside of your comfort zone or something that you would never wear again. Your photos should look and feel like you and your partner!
2. Keep Moving
Movement makes everything feel natural! Whether it’s walking, dancing, or twirling, I’ll give you prompts to keep the energy light and fun. Go for playful interactions like holding hands and running, sharing a secret, or playfully picking each other up. These kinds of moments will look more relaxed and genuine. Sometimes, the most amazing shots come when you’re just having fun together.
3. Interact with Each Other, Not the Camera
Forget the camera is even there and focus on each other! Hold hands, whisper jokes, or steal a kiss—it’s these little moments that tell your story best. Have a conversation, laugh, and connect in the moment. Gaze into each other’s eyes or whisper something funny to ease any tension. When you’re engaged with each other, the chemistry will show through, and I can capture those candid, authentic moments.
4. Trust the Process
Even if it feels awkward at first, trust me! I’m there to capture your connection in an authentic way, so let go of the pressure to get “perfect” shots. If you focus on enjoying each other’s company, the photos will turn out to reflect your most genuine smiles and connection, I promise.
5. Embrace the Awkwardness and Have Fun
Everyone feels awkward at the beginning—that’s normal! Laughter is a great way to break the ice and ease any nervousness. If you’re feeling awkward, try a “fake” laugh or a funny inside joke. Once you start laughing, it’ll be much easier to relax. The magic happens when you let go and just enjoy being with your partner.
Bonus: Get to Know Your Photographer
Building a connection with your photographer can make a huge difference in how you feel during the shoot. A good photographer will make you feel at ease and encourage you to be yourself. If possible, chat before the shoot to establish rapport or even meet up beforehand to get comfortable!
Conclusion:
The key to a relaxed and enjoyable couples shoot is finding moments of connection with each other. Your love story deserves to be captured authentically, and my job is to make the process as easy and enjoyable as possible. Trust the process, embrace the fun, and let’s create magic together!
